Eudia, the AI-powered legal platform backed by General Catalyst, has completed its first strategic acquisition with the purchase of Dublin-based Johnson Hana for $50 million, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of legal services through artificial intelligence.
The Deal at a Glance
In a landmark transaction announced on July 8, 2025, Eudia successfully acquired Johnson Hana, Ireland's leading alternative legal services provider, bringing over 300 legal professionals into its expanding platform. The acquisition, valued at $50 million (€42 million), represents Eudia's first strategic move under its unique funding structure and establishes a powerful precedent for AI-augmented legal services.
Johnson Hana has established itself as a formidable player in the alternative legal services market, serving an impressive roster of blue-chip clients including Airbnb, Stripe, Citibank, Morgan Stanley, Coca-Cola, TikTok, and OpenAI. The company has demonstrated strong financial performance, generating $34 million in annual revenue by 2024 with a workforce of over 300 legal professionals.
Founded in 2016, Johnson Hana has raised $15.69 million across multiple funding rounds, with notable investors including AIB, Enterprise Ireland, and VoxPro founder Dan Kiely. The company's focus on process-driven legal work, combined with its technology platform and project management expertise, enables clients to reduce legal spending by up to 50%.
This innovative approach represents a departure from traditional venture capital models, with General Catalyst acting more like a private equity firm focused on consolidating and optimizing businesses through technology integration. Marc Bhargava, Managing Director at General Catalyst, emphasized that this investment strategy enables Eudia to unlock both software budgets and the larger legal services market.
The Vision: AI-Augmented Legal Workforce
The acquisition creates what Eudia calls "the world's first AI-augmented human workforce" in the legal sector. Rather than replacing human lawyers, Eudia's platform enhances their capabilities through artificial intelligence, enabling more efficient and cost-effective legal services delivery.
Eudia's augmented intelligence platform serves Fortune 500 clients including Cargill, DHL, Duracell, and Coherent. The company has achieved impressive growth, crossing $10 million in annual recurring revenue and projecting $20 million by the end of 2025.
